Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is provided to Surry Medical Ministries patients through our partnership with the leading local physical and occupational therapy provider.

Orthopedic physical therapy is used to treat conditions that affect bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons and more. This therapy is one-on-one care between the therapist and patient.

Physical therapy is for patients:

  • with problems not requiring surgery
  • for recovery after surgery
  • when physical or occupational therapy has been recommended

Physical therapy may also be used to help you better manage and/or reduce pain.

How Does It Work?

We begin by evaluating each patient during their initial office visit to determine their range of motion, gait, posture and function when moving. Following this evaluation, our therapist will discuss the level of pain you may be experiencing, along with how much strength is present around the injured area. After the evaluation, your therapist will develop a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs. Then your physical therapy and rehabilitation will begin.

On average, your therapy session will generally last 15 to 30 minutes. These sessions may include stretching, manual therapy, and exercises, as well as education, including techniques you can use at home to better manage and improve your recovery as well as avoid any setbacks and/or becoming injured again.

A patient may only receive these specialized physical therapy services through a referral from one of our Surry Medical Ministries Clinic physicians.
